Requirements for Gear Pumps in Furan Resin Processes
Furan resin (furfuryl alcohol type, furfural type) is the main medium in the furan resin process, and the accompanying curing agents are mostly acidic solutions (phosphoric acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, etc., pH 1-4). Throughout the process, both the medium and the curing agent are highly corrosive, placing demands on the pump far exceeding those of ordinary chemical pumps.
1. Medium corrosiveness: The furan resin raw material contains active groups such as furfuryl alcohol and furfural, which can easily corrode ordinary metals with prolonged contact; the curing agent is a strong acid system, which can easily cause pitting and intergranular corrosion of the pump body. All parts in contact with the medium must have both acid resistance and organic corrosion resistance.
2. Viscosity and temperature sensitivity: Furan resin has a viscosity of 800-8000 cP at room temperature. It is prone to increased viscosity at low temperatures and early cross-linking at high temperatures (>60℃). The temperature needs to be controlled during transportation (typically 30-50℃) to avoid sudden changes in viscosity that could cause pumping blockages.
3. Low shear requirements: Furan resin is a high-molecular-weight binder, and high shear forces can easily damage the molecular chains, leading to a decrease in bonding strength. The pump requires a low-speed, large-pitch gear structure to prevent shear degradation of the medium.
4. Precise metering requirements: In the furan resin process, the resin and curing agent must be mixed in strict proportions (e.g., 100:5-15). The pump needs stable, pulsation-free flow with a metering accuracy of ≤±2%, suitable for precise adhesive dispensing in sand casting.

1. Jacketed temperature control structure: The pump body and cover are designed with stainless steel jackets, through which cold/warm water (30-40℃) is circulated to precisely control the temperature of the medium in the pump chamber, preventing increased viscosity at low temperatures and cross-linking at high temperatures, making it suitable for low-temperature conditions in winter or high-temperature conditions in summer;
2. Integrated metering function: A high-precision flow meter and variable frequency motor are installed at the pump end to achieve real-time flow display and variable frequency adjustment, directly adapting to the online proportioning of resin and curing agent, eliminating the need for additional metering equipment and simplifying the process pipeline;
3. Explosion-proof design: Furfural and furfuryl alcohol in furan resin are flammable and volatile organic substances, posing an explosion risk from organic vapors in the workshop. The motor is selected with an Ex d II BT4 explosion-proof type, and the junction box is sealed, meeting the explosion-proof requirements of the process workshop;
